  1. You need 3 1/2 tsp of Tikka Masala seasoning mix.
  2. Prepare 3 tsp of Curry powder.
  3. Prepare 3 tsp of turmeric powder.
  4. You need 10 clove of garlic.
  5. It's 1 can of diced green chiles.
  6. It's 1 large of onion.
  7. Prepare 1/2 cup of chopped cilantro.
  8. It's 1 packages of dried black eyed peas.
  9. Prepare 1 can of diced tomatoes.
  10. Prepare 1 cup of heavy cream.
  11. Prepare 4 cup of water.
  12. It's 1 of smoked pork hamhock (optional).
  13. It's 1/3 cup of olive oil.
  14. You need 3 tsp of cumin powder.

Sprinkle with parsley or cilantro and serve with rice or bread. A favorite amongst my boys, Black Eyed Peas Curry cooked in a smooth onion, tomatoes and coconut based sauce has earthy flavors from turmeric, cumin seeds and coriander seeds and is perfectly spiced with the mild Kashmiri red chili powder and aromatic garam masala. Black Eyed Peas Tikka Masala step by step

  1. Soak peas overnight in water. Drain them before cooking..
  2. In a food processor combine onion, garlic, cilantro. Pulse it until everything is finely chopped..
  3. In a large pot (I used a 6qt Dutch oven)? put the oil in it & cook the onion/garlic/cilantro mix with the green chiles & the canned diced tomatoes..
  4. Add the cumin, curry, tumeric, & Tikka masala seasonings. Let it cook for about another 5 minutes to let the flavors blend..
  5. Add the black eyed peas, smoked pork hamhock, & water. Salt & pepper to taste, if you want..
  6. Once it comes to a boil on med-high heat, cover & let it simmer on med-low until peas are soft & the "sauce" thickens. (About 2.5 hours).
  7. Add heavy cream & let it summer uncovered for another 30 - 40 minutes..
  8. Once it is nice & thick, you are done! I served this over white jasmine rice & it was delicious!.

So, this recipe is also known as "Punjabi Lobia Masala." The great thing about black eyed peas is that they don't take as long as other legumes to cook. You don't need to soak the beans at all - but I always soak legumes to help reduce phytic acid (more info on that here). Making lobia masala is very easy. With just a few simple ingredients Shahi lobia masala is ready in no time!! Just blend a sauteed mixture of onions and tomatoes with some simple spices, ginger, garlic and green chilies.
